I am 39 weeks pregnant today. Really, little Jack could arrive any day. I had a baby shower at 38 1/2 weeks, I was doing yard work at 37 weeks, I helped Colin trim bushes yesterday, we went shopping for curtain fabric this morning, and I am playing the organ at church tomorrow. I am really surprised at how well I am doing. I am still able to do almost everything I need to at a relatively comfortable level except get myself upright out of bed. My pelvis hurts when I am stiff and my hips hurt from sleeping on my side. But I did 3 loads of laundry yesterday. 3. And finished setting up everything in Jack's room. I don't know where this energy is coming from. Is this nesting???
I want to remember this pregnancy because it isn't like any of my others will be. I can sit in silence and feel the movements of the little spirit growing inside me. I wince in discomfort when he pushes out my hips and ribs while simultaneously smiling as I think of him practicing those movements for the outside world. This pregnancy has been pretty easy- I didn't get sick at all, I didn't get big until later and I was done with school at 20 weeks. I'm still able to sleep almost all night! All I need is the 3am pee run. That's amazing! I wonder if it's going to all catch up with me with our second child...
I am so excited for Colin to be a Daddy. I can't wait to see him look into our baby's eyes and hold him. I am so lucky to be able to feel Jack so much as he moves. Colin's bonding will mostly happen after baby arrives. Having children is the ultimate goal and prize of being married on this earth. I can't believe that we have the honor and privilege to get a glimpse of heaven as we welcome our first little one into this world and our family.
I woke up this morning at 5am and couldn't go back to sleep. I watched my husband peacefully dreaming and I smiled. I love him so much. He is the most hardworking person I know and he does so much for our little family of almost 3. I sat at the table and finished writing baby shower thank you cards as I ate toast with Grandma Jeannie's Blackberry Jam on it. I remembered that I am 39 weeks pregnant today and felt I needed to write something. The sky outside slowly got a lighter blue, the birds got louder and soon could see the details of the once black silhouettes of neighborhood houses. The spring green of the bushes and the blue of the dawn sky were beautiful. This happens every morning and I usually sleep right through it. I am so glad I saw it this morning. What a miraculous time of the day. Who knows how many mornings I will be able to have sitting at the table, by myself, in silence, watching the world light up.
ps I drew and colored all the art in Jacks room:)
And thank you Grandma Jeannie for the blanket. I love it so much I want to snuggle with it.
