Eye exam anyone?

I don't know how many of you have gone in for a routine eye exam. I had never had one. Our insurance covers them and since Colins family all have glasses, I thought why not? Let's get them.

I scheduled them back to back so we could take Jack and just juggle him. I went first. I had no idea what to expect. Maybe make me read a few lines of letters and call it good. That is not at all what happened. This lady gave me a Kleenex and told me to tilt my head back. Before I even saw it, she put drops in my eyes that hurt! I dabbed the excess and looked at my Kleenex! It was stained yellow! Had my eyes exploded?? What was happening!? She then wheeled a contraption up to my face and asked me to put my chin and forehead on a rest. Asking me not to blink and keep my eyes wide open(after putting hell drops in them), she put this microscope with a blue light right up to my eyeball. So... "don't blink while I touch your eyelid and eyeball with a stick with a bright light on it." Really? Can anyone on this planet do that?

Ok that was done. Can I go yet? Nope. Head back for more death drops. She wasn't gentle about it either! AFTER she put the drops in, she said, "Those drops are going to dialate your eyes and everything will be blurry for at least 4 hours." What??!! Right after this appointment, I was headed to the Junior High to help teach orchestra. After a few minutes, she shined another bright light into my eyes and then I was done. My eyes were fine. Perfect vision. I had to go through all of the to know- how wonderful.

I then went into Colins exam. He had even a harder time than I did because the first set of drops hit his eye wrong. He couldn't keep his right eye open at all. They limped through his exam and he has better than perfect vision.

As we were leaving with our awesome black out glasses, Colin said, "We are NEVER EVER doing that again." I never feel like doing that on a regular basis but we later agreed we would get exams when he is 35- a few years from now to let this horrible experience fade from our memories. He thinks I will forget by then. We'll see.

If you have glasses, I am so sorry for you. If you work for a eye exam office, let the nurses know that not everyone knows what to expect and some warning would be nice. If you have good vision, routine eye exams should be done routinely every 10 years.
