Windstorm

It's the little things that I love about being a mom. This morning, Jack slept in a little longer than he usually does, which was nice because Colin and I couldn't sleep because the crazy wind storm kept waking us up. So when he decided to wake up, I went in grabbed Jack and came back into my bed. Daddy was nowhere near a level of consciousness so I pulled back the curtain and Jack and I laid on the bed and watched our tree sway in the wind. He curled up next to me, binki in mouth of course, and laid still as I stroked his face and neck. All I wanted to do was to keep him in my arms like that forever. Yep, I had one of those mommy moments- I want to keep him safe in my arms forever and never let the world get to him. Can't he grow up like that? I want to tell myself that but the world is waiting for him. I will teach him good and bad and I'll always be here to encourage him which he should choose.

Whether I like it or not, Jack is growing. I've told him multiple times to stop but he just won't listen.

Six Months

I can't believe Jack is six months old already! He rolls around like crazy and gets mad when a toy he wants is out of his reach. He loves eating sweet potatoes but hasn't come around to carrots or zucchini. He has two little teeth that have popped through his lower gums.
I have three weeks left of student teaching. Don't get me wrong- student teaching has been one of the most insightful and worthwhile experiences of my life- but I can not wait to go home. Be home all day with Jack. To clean, to cook, and actually be in house that I'm trying to run. The small amount of time I spend with Jack in the afternoons isn't nearly enough. I want to get up with him in the morning and be with him all day!
You're half way to your first birthday Jack!! Way to go! We love you!

Halloween 2012

Jack was Rex from toy story until we took the hat off then he was just a lizard which was still really cute. Bethany made an awesome costume for work. I really hope she wins the costume contest!! She made her costume people. MADE it.

iPad redemption

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. But really bad stuff doesn't happen to me. Right? Well that's what I thought. Until three weeks ago.

I saved up to buy my own iPad. Instead of buying it on a credit card, I saved the money. When it came in the mail, I couldn't believe it was mine. After my laptop broke, I haven't had my own computer for 8 months. It was so convenient. Colin and I loved it.

On a regular Tuesday, Colin and I went to the store. We were gone for 15 minutes. When we came in through the garage door, Colin saw two teenage boys in the backyard. He asked them what they were doing, they said they thought it was their friends house. We politely told them they had it wrong and to leave. But as they did, we both felt like something wasn't right. My first thought- Where was the iPad? I remembered leaving it on the coffee table right before we left but it wasn't there or anywhere in the room. It was gone. And the front door was unlocked. Colin decided to go for a drive. He spotted the kids up the road. He called the police to report that our iPad had been stolen and he was looking at the kids who had taken it. Dispatch told Colin not to approach them, to go home and an officer would meet him there. 30 minutes later, an officer showed up and asked, "so, what happened?" I was distraught. We could have gotten it back but we were told to go home and it slipped through our fingers.

I hadn't even had the iPad for a month and it got stolen out of my own house! Kids came into my house and took whatever they wanted. That is so frustrating and was really hard to forgive them.

Three weeks went by. We debated whether to buy another one or to wait another 8 months and save up for one. We never came to a decision.

Then out of the blue, I got an email from Apple informing me that a Bountiful police officer had called them with the serial number that matched my post iPad. I was given the detectives contact information. I had to read the email four times. Was this serious? Had someone really found it? Was it broken? Did anyone get busted?????? I had so many questions.

I called the officer and indeed he had an iPad. I described it to him then told him my name was engraved on the back. He hadn't noticed it with the case on. It was mine!! I could hardly believe it. I sheepishly asked if he could tell me how he came across it.

Someone had called the police with a tip that they saw a kid with an iPad with someone else's name engraved on the back. Police went to the kids house and upon searching his room found multiple stolen items- iPad, iPods and cameras. They somehow got a hold of his friends name that had been out with him and they went over and searched his room too and had the same result- expensive electronics that had been reported stolen. Evidently, kids have been going around to houses that seemed like no one was home, knocking on the door and if someone did answer, would act like they were at the wrong house. If there was no answer, they would try the front door or a window to enter and steal things. The officer told me that they had arrested 5 teenage kids who had been doing this in North Salt Lake and Bountiful. Welcome to Utah I guess.

It's a miracle we got it back in perfect condition. All of my files were deleted but that is a small price to pay to have it back.

Crazy things can happen to anyone. Even me.

New Stroller

We went on our first run in the new stroller this morning. Jack loved every minute of it.

Jacks Blessing

Quinn, Uncle Jon and Colins Dad all helped in blessing Jack.

Jack already loves Grandpa Bob. he was getting laughs and squeals out of Jack that even Colin and I cant get! It was so nice to have Quinn and Dad here for the weekend. We always love spending time with family.

Some things about my life seem surreal. I actually gave birth to a child. That was already 12 weeks ago. And Colin blessed his first son. Life is so precious. We try to count our abundant blessings.

Jack met Grammie and Grandpa Bob.

Summertime

Our little Jack is growing all too fast. Although he is starting to sleep better at night, I get exhausted trying to do everything I do. Between doing the dishes, soothing a baby breakdown, making lunch and doing projects, I strive to see the little things that are special and wont last. Like Jack rolling over on accident because when he pushes up his head, its so heavy he falls over then rolls. Like Jack in the bumbo on the table during breakfast talking to dad- well, more like squealing and yelling through smiles. Like when I'm drifting off to sleep and I feel Colin roll over and kiss me on the cheek. Like when Jack is laying on the floor, still, and coos quietly at something he's looking at. Its those little special things that I am going to remember in a few years.

Rachel came through Salt Lake on her way to do a show in California. We had a get together at my house and almost everyone was able to come!(we missed Aaron and Tammy!) We were able to sit outside as the sun went down and have a great time catching up with everyone. The sprinklers were able to keep the kids cool and entertained. Watching them run around in the backyard made me look forward to having Jack play back there with his siblings and cousins!

Jade carrying around rocks with her chin was hilarious.

Jack likes reading books with Dad!

Four Generations

Humboldt Trip July 2012

We made our first trip to Eureka with Jack. We made it out in one long 16-hour day. Only two major meltdowns that required pulling over for a break. We took two days to come back which was a lot easier on everyone. Jack got to meet grandpa Ric and great-grama and grampa Jeannie and Dee! It was so nice to have a break from the heat in Utah and fell wet and soggy for a few days. The annual Medley reunion was happening at Grandma Jeannies house so we got to see all the cousins! Everyone is so grown up!

Ellie and Jack.
Two of the four 2012 grandbabies.
Another boy coming in August and girl in October.

Mom took Lynn and me to the Samoa Cookhouse. The food was really good! In their little museum is the picture that used to hang in Grandma Dottys house. It has a little plaque with her name on it. It made me really miss her.

Jack travels home

On the way back to Utah, we stayed overnight in Reno. After feeding Jack before bed, he threw up EVERYTHING he had just eaten. It was the most amount of throw up I have ever seen come out of a child. It got on his face and breathed a little bit in his nose. He was really quite upset. It took a lot of rocking and soothing but he finally calmed down and fell asleep. It was just as traumatic for me!! I didnt know if he was sick! Feeding him the next few times was really nerve-racking but we all survived  and havent had as colossal of a puke since. Thankfully.
Sometimes, I wish I could sleep this soundly.

2 months

Jack is 2 months old! He is filling out and developing quite the personality. Sometimes drives mom crazy but that can never last long with his cute smiles hes giving us!

Fathers Day

Well, this is us. Our little family.
I made Colin and Jack shirts for Fathers Day.
(Colins work buddies joke about the "hashtag" sign. His shirt is an inside joke.)

Colin is a great Dad. Always wanting to hold our little man when he comes home from work, helping mom when shes really tired. I love you, Colin. Happy Fathers Day.

Phone home

I love these boys. The Roscoes were a big part of my High School experience. Most of the stories I recall from HS include one of these boys in one way or another.

I got on Facebook this morning and saw that it was Mathews birthday. I went to his profile to write happy birthday on his wall. I stopped. When was the last time I actually talked with Mathew? Or Michael for that matter? What is so hard about picking up the phone and calling him, hearing his voice, catching up a bit and telling him happy birthday? Nothing. So I did. It was a great conversation. I am pretty sure I woke up him even though it was after 10am but I thought he wouldn't mind.

There are so many friends I have had over the years. School growing up, HSU, the singles ward in Humboldt, and BYU-Idaho. These people are so special to me and have contributed to my happiness in little and big ways. I keep up with them by looking at their Facebook pages but we dont communicate in the way enough to really keep in touch.

Why is picking up the phone so hard? I shouldn't be so afraid of that line of communication. I want to keep in touch with people. Through Email and phone calls- actual conversations instead of one sentence every few months on Facebook. Who knows if I will be able to keep up with people forever but I want to make a better effort.

And Happy Birthday again Mathew :)

First four weeks

One week

Two weeks

Three weeks

Four weeks

The past month has gone by way too fast. Looking at these four pictures, I can already see how much hes grown! Our newborn is turning into a baby.

You make new noises everyday.
You're getting better at sleeping at night.
You look at faces and follow movements with your eyes.
Sometimes you love your bath, sometimes you hate it.
Daddy likes grabbing your little toes when they stick out of your blanket.
You made it through all three hours of your first Sunday at church.
You love walks outside.
You snuggle. And that's mommys favorite thing.

poop. literally.

My lovely second mother, Sister Messerly, came over a few weeks ago. It was wonderful to sit down and talk just me and her about Jacks birth. While she was holding him, he let go of a big loud poo. Jack and Sister Messerly are now very close friends.

The other day, Colin was hold Jack and I thought how funny it would be if Jack did the same thing to Colin. I knew he would freak out. So I told Colin, "I would find it so funny it Jack pooped right now while you were holding him." Not 30 seconds later and boom! Colin instantly picked him up so his diaper was nowhere near his clothes in case of any leakage. The look of surprise, horror and laughter on Colin's face was hilarious! Way to go Jack! We got Dad!

We have yet to experience a poo that the diaper cant contain.... I have a feeling its going to be one for the books!

I cant believe that this was already four weeks ago. My life has completely changed. This little bundle has brought us so much joy and smiles as well as tears and frustration. I haven't slept for more than three and a half hours at one time. He has a good night, then a bad one but we nap during the day together. We make it work.

Colin has been the most wonderful husband I could have ever asked for. Since I have been feeling so much better and recovered, I have had a hankering to get outside. I want to do yardwork! I can do bits here and there during the day while carrying the baby monitor with Jack inside sleeping but I have to be ready to drop what I'm doing when he wakes up. Yesterday, Colin stayed inside with Jack for two hours while I was in the nethermost part of the yard building a compost box. What a guy! I am exhausted and sore today but feel renewed from my outside time!

What a beautiful blessing it is to be a mom. I dont think it has fully hit me yet that this is MY kid but I get a glimpse when he arches his back to look up at my face while hes resting on my chest. This little kid is going to call me mom. The person who has that title deserves major points. I am starting to realize just how much a mom does to care for her child. It takes ALL of your time. You make time here and there for yourself but even during "my time," I cant stop thinking about whether or not Jack is doing ok- is he happy? is he comfortable?? A child takes your time but your entire being revolved around him. I am in love with this little guy. The poopy diapers, puke on my shirt, 2am tummy trouble screams aside, I love him.

Jacks birth

Thank you Sarah for all these beautiful birth and newborn photos. I love them and
